PJL Staff work together in the latest team building challenge …
At PJL Healthcare Ltd, we have two children’s homes and a central admin support team and we all work together for one common goal – to make a positive impact on the children and young people we look after. We’re always looking for something different to get the teams together and have some fun and we recently challenged them to an escape room experience – it was a great success!
it was an experience to witness first-hand how the differences in other people’s logical thinking all shine in different ways! Some of us were so much better at finding clues and others more skilled in figuring out the puzzles

It’s no secret that things have been tough for everyone over the last 18 months, and it seems that Covid hasn’t finished with us yet!
We are lucky to have our own in-house training facility, but training is not just classroom based or completing workbooks, we’re always looking for something different to organise including some exciting team building activities to get the teams together and have some fun.
As the staff work across three different sites across a wide range of different shifts (including nights and weekends) it was hard to find something that everybody could have the opportunity to attend. We considered several suggestions but, in the end, we chose an escape room experience as a fun and novel way to improve teamwork between all departments and above all have some fun!!
It was a great chance to spend time with the team outside of work and have some fun!
Sophie
The escape room was such an enjoyable experience! It was also great to get to know people from different teams who I don’t see when working on shift.

I Had a laugh and it was nice to solve the escape with a new staff member and one I didn’t know well.
Becky
On the recommendation of friends and colleagues, we chose a local company who were known to have escape rooms that were really engaging and interactive – not just solving clues. It was a great way to get our teams together out of their normal working environment with colleagues they don’t necessarily work with day-to-day. Everyone had to work together, learn about each other’s strengths and weaknesses with a common goal.
Definitely the best escape room I’ve been to!
I thought it was a really good idea for team building as everyone used their different strengths to get to the end … a really fun afternoon!

The teams were challenged with escaping from quicksand, inflating boats and unlocking brain teasing puzzles. It really drew everyone together, testing us on working collaboratively and drawing everyone together to focus on some common goals in a fun and safe environment.
It took me away from work and gave me the chance to drift down a river, play in a dark tunnel, and sink in sand while hunting for an old relic … what more could you want?!
Rob
I Would definitely like to go again. Great fun!
Heidi
Feedback from the sessions has been great, everyone agreed that it was a great exercise and has had a really positive effect.
It was absolutely great! I really enjoyed it and will definitely come again with my friends!
