An endless supply of fun!

Recreational activities which help to build social skills, teamwork, fitness and confidence, are a crucial part of our success.

Everything is tailored to the needs of the individual, taking into account activities they’ve enjoyed in the past and any special interests. We start with things that the young person likes to do and is comfortable with. As their confidence increases, and at a pace to suit the individual, we introduce new challenges

Mayfield has an Activities Co-ordinator to plan the fun and everyone has the opportunity to make requests and suggestions.

Many love our popular yoga club! As well as improving fitness, it is fantastic for relaxation and stress relief.

Clubs

Our various clubs provide a structured, group approach to learning something new, gaining fitness and having fun.

We also run cookery, gardening and running clubs. Plus, of course, the ever-popular curry club!

Mayfield’s Got Talent

Simon Cowell watch out, because Mayfield’s definitely got talent!

Our weekly competition encourages the young people to get creative with challenges such as making self-portraits, drawing favourite book characters and hosting themed evenings.

Hindleap Warren is a favourite outdoor centre for many young people. “I did the high swing at the obstacle course. It was scary, but I did it.” Alex, who lives at Bluebell House.

Getting active

We understand the importance of exercise for a healthy lifestyle and encourage all our young people to keep fit in the way which suits them best.

For those who are looking for something a little more sporty, we also arrange activities such as:

  • Rock climbing
  • Horse riding
  • Swimming
  • Roller blading
  • Trampolining

Culture and celebrations

The cultural and religious beliefs of everyone who comes to live with us are respected and celebrated. We take plenty of opportunities to explore different cultures.

And, of course, we ensure that everyone’s birthday is marked with a day of fun and partying – building positive memories for this very important date in their lives.

When we celebrated Eid the young people had an opportunity to taste exotic fruits they’d never tried before.

Daniel has an annual cinema pass so he can indulge in his love of horror films every week!

Out and about

We are lucky to be surrounded by many popular leisure attractions. There are plenty of options for eating out, shopping, bowling, discos and the cinema.

There is an abundance of locations for days out, including:

  • The beach, with seaside towns such as Eastbourne, Brighton, Hastings and Bexhill close at hand.
  • Theme parks, including Legoland, Knockhatch, Chessington World of Adventures and Thorpe Park.
  • Zoos, such as Drusilla’s, Port Lympne, Howletts and London Zoo.
  • Historical sites, including National Trust properties.

We also have access to a range of specialist leisure facilities and clubs, provided by organisations such as MenCap.

The children are given opportunities to go out and access community activities which are unparalleled among the other homes with which I work.

Annual holiday

The big event of the year is our annual summer holiday. This is often to the wonderful worlds of Butlins or Center Parcs, but we encourage everyone to suggest alternative ideas. For those who are not comfortable spending nights away from home, we provide an alternative of five long days out.
