An endless supply of fun!

We believe that fun activities can be pivotal in helping young people develop new skills and independence. Celebrating progress and greater independence helps to build confidence and prepare them for the future.

Life skills, fun and achievements are recorded through ‘Learning Journeys’ which incorporate the five ‘Every Child Matters’ outcomes. They provide the young people with goals to work towards and a record of all they have achieved and enjoyed while living at Framfield.

We employ an Activity Co-ordinator to plan the fun.  They regularly give the young people, and the team supporting them, the opportunity to make requests and suggestions for the Learning Journey they would like to ‘travel along’.

There is a homely, fun atmosphere within the home. This helps to create and to maintain enjoyable experiences that enable children to thrive in all areas of their lives.

Latest Ofsted report, Framfield.

We start with things that people like to do and are comfortable with. As their confidence increases, and at a pace to suit the individual, we introduce new challenges.

This is just a flavour of the many individual and group activities we offer …

Clubs

Here at Acre Farm we are keen to encourage the young people to take part in community activities as it provides them with a great opportunity to try new things, learn new skills, and make new friends.

At the moment the young people are actively involved in a football club, a gymnastics club, a trampolining club, and horse riding. Through these clubs the young people have achieved individual awards, badges, certificates and the feeling of scoring the winning goal in a football match! With the summer months upon us the young people are currently exploring other clubs they might like to join in the near future, including rugby and swimming!

Alongside the weekly clubs the young people also engage in activities with the adults that care for them and these include, star gazing, gardening, culture nights, countryside walks, bike rides, basketball, badminton, nights round the fire pit, and water fights!

Framfield film nights are a bit hit, recreating that cinema-feel at home and sometimes under the stars.

We all do different activities. I do trampolining and horse riding — Katie.

I do gymnastics and dance — Ellie.

Both girls live at Acre Farm, our Framfield home.

Getting active

We understand the importance of exercise for a healthy lifestyle and encourage all our young people to keep fit in the way which suits them best.

At Acre Farm we are fortunate to have plenty of outdoor space and some beautiful country walks. There are also many bike trails to take advantage of.

For those who are looking for something a little more sporty, we also arrange activities such as:

  • Horse riding
  • Swimming
  • Ice skating
  • Roller blading
  • Joining local sports clubs

Staff know how to put on a party.

Culture and celebrations

The cultural and religious beliefs of everyone who comes to live with us are respected and celebrated. The young people love learning about and experiencing different cultures. Diverse cultural and religious festivals are celebrated throughout the year.

And, of course, we ensure that everyone’s birthday is marked with a day of fun and partying – building positive memories for this very important date in their lives.

Celebrating Easter became a giving event at Framfield. We raised money to buy Easter Eggs for the staff at Crowborough and Uckfield hospitals.

Out and about

We are lucky to be surrounded by many popular leisure attractions. There are plenty of venues for eating out, shopping, bowling, discos and the cinema.

There is an abundance of options for days out, including:

  • The beach, with seaside towns such as Eastbourne, Brighton, Hastings and Bexhill close at hand.
  • Theme parks, including Legoland, Knockhatch, Chessington World of Adventures,Thorpe Park and Bewl Water Aqua Park
  • Zoos, such as Drusilla’s, Port Lympne, Howletts and London Zoo.
  • Historical sites, including many National Trust properties.
  • Activity venues, such as Go Ape and Hindleap Warren.

Annual holiday

The big event of the year is our annual summer holiday. This could be camping in the New Forest or an activity holiday; we encourage everyone to suggest ideas. For those who are not comfortable spending nights away from home, we provide an alternative of five long days out. We also have holidays away at other times of the year, such as visiting Christmas Markets.

We can also support independent travel, for example, we supported one young person’s travel to Malta to visit their family.
