Training for excellence
Our team are devoted to caring for the young people who live with us. But enthusiasm alone isn’t enough. Everything we do is underpinned by our outstanding training.
We are lucky to have our own Training Centre and the majority of our training is managed in-house, under the guidance and annual audit of NCFE CACHE (the Council for Awards in Care, Health and Education).

Safety
The safety of those who live with us, and our team, is an essential part of our training.
Everyone receives robust health and safety training, including emergency first aid at work, safeguarding, infection control and L2 food safety.
Our safety training also focuses on the potential for difficult or dangerous situations to arise. We study ways to prevent these situations, de-escalate them at the first sign of trouble and, when necessary, manage them through techniques such as Team Teach restraints.
Positivity
Our team are all trained in various approaches to encourage positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing.
We use Positive Behavioural Support (PBS), often in conjunction with specialists from Starjumpz, to help reinforce positive behaviours for those who have communication, behavioural or sensory disabilities.
Communication
We know that everyone who comes to live with us will have different needs in terms of communication. It is imperative that our team understand and act upon those needs.
We use specialist techniques, such as the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), the Widgit pictorial writing system and Makaton training with our own in-house Makaton teacher. This ensures that we are capable of communicating with everyone we care for.
Specialist needs
We use experts to provide specialist training in specific topics, for example epilepsy and autism.
This combination of in-house and external specialist training allows us to cater for the individual needs of each person who comes to live with us. And, as a result, give them a more fulfilling and enjoyable life.
